(I didn’t call it lyric analysis this time ‘cuz I didn’t really analyze the lyrics…like last time, I just went off on a lovely and point-making tangent related to the lyrics.)
It doesn’t matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
‘Cause you were born this way, baby
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
“There’s nothin wrong with lovin who you are”
She said, “’cause he made you perfect, babe”
“So hold your head up girl and you’ll go far,
Listen to me when I say”
I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way
Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way
Ooo there ain’t no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
(Born this way)
Ooo there ain’t no other way
Baby, I was born this way
Right track baby
I was born this way
Don’t be a drag – just be a queen…
Don’t be!
Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice your truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (love needs faith)
chorus
Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you’re broke or evergreen
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent
You’re lebanese, you’re orient
Whether life’s disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
‘Cause baby you were born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to be brave
chorus
I was born this way hey!…
Romans 12: 3-8: 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
I know that Lady GaGa creates many reactions to her music, but I just want to look at this song. I also paralleled it to Romans 12. So? We are born the way we were for a reason: if we are an eye, we do what an eye does. An eye cannot attempt to be a nose, for it was made an eye for a reason. We need eyes to see! Without eyes, we lose one of our 5 senses. Without even one eye, we lose depth perception at all. And don’t tell yourself that you are a worthless limb or organ that the body doesn’t need, such as the appendix like the one you may have gotten out last year or the pinkie toe that doesn’t always even touch the ground. We were all created for a purpose, and we have to love ourselves the way we were made to fully reach that purpose. If an eye does not realize that it is, indeed, an eye, then how can it see? Jesus talks a lot about all of us being members of one body. Just remember, that Christ is the head! He is what we all have in common. The head sends messages to this body part or that to do the work it is supposed to do. But how can we listen to the head if we are separated from the body?
God created you to be you. Look at it this way: if you don’t like the way you are, you are offending God, the creator of it all. Love yourself and the gifts you have! Make use of them! You may not be the one at the front of the team doing all of the speaking, but the front person needs support from the one in the back to make anything go smoothly. That was a very vague sentence, but I think you got the picture? Everyone was created the way they were for a reason. You are perfect, just the way you are.
Please don’t be close-minded or something and say that you were born that way. God wants us all to get along and be unified, which only happens if we try to understand one another and love each other. “Love needs faith,” the song proclaims. In John 15:12 Jesus says: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” The nose cannot laugh at the eye because it is an eye and not a nose—without the eye, our scent would be pretty confused without proper adaptations. Love one another!
I’m beautiful in my way, ‘Cause God makes no mistakes! I’m on the right track baby, I was born this way! Don’t hide yourself in regret, Just love yourself and you’re set! I’m on the right track baby, I was born this way!
